Making your dream come true: the 5 mistakes to avoid.

Dernière mise à jour : 7 déc. 2023

You have this idea simmering between your two ears and here is the question that the majority of us have asked ourselves on first day when we embarked on a challenge or an adventure that we had never done before: “Where can I start”?

Very often we have an idea that sprouted in our head, an idea that became defined over time and now is the time to make it real.

But when it's the first time our experience on the subject cannot help us. Whether it is developing a navigation plan, refurbishing a sailboat, trekking in the mountains or setting up a business, you have to start somewhere and it It’s normal to look for your bearings.

There is success from the moment when pleasure and happiness is achieved through this project.

Regrets about embarking on the adventure? None

Three years ago I embarked on a crazy adventure full of twists and turns: temporarily leaving my 9 to 5 in order to realize the craziest dream I ever had: to pick up a 51-foot sailboat in French Polynesia and sail on board for almost two years to bring it back to Quebec!

And today I want to share with you the 5 mistakes to avoid if you too want to realize your dream .

1. Not pursuing your dream

You probably know the phrase “live your dreams instead of dreaming your life”? Well that’s exactly where it all begins! Every day we make choices, we take actions that lead us to tomorrow, and it is these small actions, sometimes minimal and insignificant, that little by little can build and pave the way towards the realization of our dream.

Now you have the choice to let life build this path by itself, to let yourself be carried away by the current of life, or you have the choice to take the helm and choose which path you want to follow.

If I hadn't believed in this project, if I had waited for the road to build itself this journey would never have happened and I would still be saying to myself today “if only I could make this dream come true”!

At the moment there is a phrase which is in vogue and which I am pleased to repeat here: “A day or Day 1? »

So take your courage in both hands and if you haven't started yet, make sure that today is the first day towards achieving your dream!

2. Believe that the path will be easy.

Very often when I heard about this project I was told that I was lucky. This is not false, but what we call “luck” is also the ability to generate opportunities and be ready to seize them when they present themselves.

If you want to win the lottery, you can be the luckiest in the world, but if you don't have a ticket in your possession you are not likely to win.

The journey towards realizing your project and your dream will not be easy. Creating opportunities takes time, energy and dedication and effort. And if that wasn't enough, the day the opportunity presents itself you also have to be ready to seize it, and this means being prepared in advance!

But if the path were only easy, wouldn't the realization of one's dream be easy? blander?

3-Lower your arms

At this stage the mistake that constantly lurks is that of giving up and giving up. The results are not yet visible, nothing has changed and the hope of success is starting to fade, and yet.

The little chick must persevere and keep hitting its shell to break it and breathe fresh air. If he gave up after five moves, exhausted and hopeless, he would never realize that the sixth attempt would have been enough to crack his shell.

Don't let yourself be overwhelmed by events. It would be a shame to see you give up when faced with a difficulty. Be stronger than this obstacle, be more resilient than the challenge in front of you, and one way to do this is to cultivate and maintain a positive attitude!

4-Not learning from your mistakes

Life is a learning journey for the one who is willing to learn its lessons. Sometimes learning comes from success, but it is even more interesting to have the ability to learn from mistakes.

The first step is to become aware of this error, and although perhaps you are not responsible for it, or at least not entirely, jump at the opportunity to learn a lesson from it, that way if this situation arises again you can ensure you get around it and apply your expertise.

Robin Sharma, who notably wrote The monk who sold his Ferrari, illustrated this point by saying that "there are no negative experiences, there are no There are only opportunities to mature, learn and move forward along the path of self-mastery. ”.

A challenge, with an appropriate mindset and a positive attitude can be transformed into learning and the development of one's abilities!

5-Not enjoying the trip

“It’s not the destination, it’s the journey. » You have probably already heard this phrase and in the journey towards your dream it takes on its full meaning. There are going to be ups and downs, difficulties, challenges and these are an integral part of this path, this journey. Not being able to appreciate these moments, even when they take us out of our comfort zone, is to despise a very component of this journey!

There is success from the moment when pleasure and happiness is achieved through this project.

Too often it is later that we realize that it is not the destination that counts, the destination which is beautiful, but the journey taken to get there.

So today, no matter what stage of your project you are in, no matter what difficulties you experience today, live and enjoy the path with all its detours.

With that, I wish you a wonderful path towards realizing your dream and see you soon!

Take care of yourself!
