Why Venus

The Baltic 51 comes from a period when performance yachts were designed not only to sail fast, but also to withstand demanding offshore conditions.

Venus reflects that philosophy.

Her C&C hull design offers a powerful yet balanced sailing character. She remains responsive in lighter winds, rewards an engaged sailor and maintains the reassuring motion and stability expected from a yacht designed for serious passage-making.

Her 4.66-metre beam provides generous interior volume, storage and living space without compromising her sailing identity.

She is not a modern production cruiser designed primarily around marina accommodation. Venus is a genuine sailing yacht: elegant, capable and built to cover distance.

Her recent refit has preserved that character while renewing several of the key areas required for continued serious cruising:

• Complete preventive anti-osmosis treatment and new epoxy barrier system

• New standing rigging

• New mainsail

• Hull and underwater protection renewed

• Deck repainted with new non-slip finish

• Extensive electrical, mechanical and onboard-system upgrades

Venus offers the sailing qualities for which early Baltic yachts remain highly regarded: balance, sensitivity, strength and rewarding performance.

She feels powerful without being excessive and responsive without being nervous.

Her deep keel and C&C hull form provide confidence offshore, while her sail plan allows her to remain engaging and enjoyable in more moderate conditions.

She is particularly suited to an owner seeking:

• long-distance bluewater cruising;

• fast and rewarding passage-making;

• extended or remote cruising;

Her Story

​

Baltic Yachts built Venus in Finland in 1980, during the years the yard was establishing its reputation for fast, beautifully built, lightweight cruisers.

Venus has sailed through the Atlantic, Pacific and Southern Ocean regions over more than four decades.

Her history includes voyages through Patagonia, around Cape Horn and across some of the world’s most demanding waters.

Under her current ownership, Venus sailed approximately 15,000 nautical miles from Polynesia to Quebec over sixteen months, much of the route completed against prevailing winds and currents.

Following her refit, she returned to offshore sailing and completed further passages of 5,000 nm from Quebec, to the Azores, Madeira and mainland Europe.

​Her history was recognised by Baltic Yachts, which featured Venus and her voyages in The Baltic Log as part of the shipyard’s 50th-anniversary publications.
